Desmond Cup Final - Ballingarry Winners 2009/10
Congratulations to Ballingarry FC who are this years' Desmond Cup winners after a dream start after bagging the opening goal & winner in the first minute of the game. The Newcastle West keeper Amie made a fantastic save pushing a bullet of a shot against the crossbar only for the rebound to fall to Mariead Fitzgerald the Ballingarry striker who put it in the back of the net. Newcastle West did their best to come back at them but were up against a resolute Ballingarry defence. Mary Shire in mid-field for Ballingarry played an outstanding game and controled alot of the play and so did her collegues throughout the field. Newcastle fought till the end but could find the equaliser due to the outstanding Ballingarry defence. Well done to Mary (Capt.) and the girls & to her management team on winning the cup. Hard luck to Newcastle West but I' sure they will be back having such a young & talented side.

League Cup Final - Glin Rovers Winners 2009/10
Congratulatins and well done to Glin Rovers who are the winners of the League Cup after an epic battle against Adare FC. Both sides had gone into this game hoping to secure some silverware but it wasn't going to be an easy task. Adare saw themselves take the lead early in the first half & were the better team in the half but a resolute Glin came out in the second half with all guns blazing and played the much better soccer in the second half. They were rewarded for their efforts when a well taken free kick by Siobhan Guinane was bundled to the net after a goal mouth scramble leaving the full time score 1-1 sending the game into extra time. At the end of extra time the score remained the same so the game went to penalties. After some well taken penalties and saves the game went to sudden death where Glin emerged winners. This was a very exciting game & well done to both teams involved. Hard luck to Adare FC who put in a tremendous effort on the day, I'm sure they will win some silverware in the near future.
On behalf of the Limerick Desmond Ladies Committee I like to thank the Limerick Desmond League for the use of their pitch & facilities and to the groundsman Joe McGrath who gave us great help on the day.

Division 2 - Carrig Celtic crowned winners 2009/10
Congratulations to Carrig Celtic on winning their first Division 2 title since the league began. Carrig Celtic & Rathkeale served up an entertaining game of soccer for this playoff. Carrig went ahead early in the first half when Ann McSweeney beat the keeper at the near post to the delight of the huge support that had made their way to the game. This did not put Rathkeale off and they dominated the play for the most of the rest of the half and forced a number of free kicks and corners but failed to break down a very solid Carrig defence. Carrig came close to going 2 up ten minutes into the second half when Jessie Quaid hit the crossbar. Rathkeale piled on the pressure and it paid of 5 minutes from time when a well taken free kick wasn't cleared by Carrig & the Rathkeale striker Jenny Naughton put the ball in the net leaving the full time score at 1 all pushing the game into extra time. Carrig came out fighting wih a new belief and determination which paid off 3 minutes from time when Michell Brouder sent in the ball from a corner kick, a shot by Briget Liston, the ball broke to Mairead O' Sullivan at the back post and she drove the ball to the back of the net sparking of scenes of delight from the large following support they had. A very entertaining game by both sides and well done to both teams on the day for their fine display of soccer. Hard luck to Rathkeale but I'm sure they will be back again to win some silverware.
